The Bom Jesus do Monte sanctuary, on a hill outside Braga, has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2019. Its most famous sight is the zigzagging Baroque stairway, with fountains and chapels dedicated to the senses and the virtues.
At the top are a neoclassical basilica, gardens, a small lake and views over Braga. Beside the stairs, a water-counterbalanced funicular has run since 1882, the oldest of its kind in the world still in service.
