This is a small hexagonal lighthouse from 1886 at the end of the Felgueiras breakwater in Foz do Douro, the district where the river meets the Atlantic. For more than a century it guided ships across the Douro bar.
On stormy days waves break over the breakwater and swallow the lighthouse completely, a much-photographed sight. When the sea is calm, it is a quiet walk between the Foz seafront and the beach.
