It's a 484-metre hill on the edge of the Vienna Woods, north of the city. In 1683 the army of Polish king John III Sobieski came down from here to break the Ottoman siege of Vienna, and a chapel in the hilltop church remembers the battle.
From the viewing terrace you see the whole city, the cathedral, the Danube and, on clear days, the mountains to the south. Below lie the vineyards that make Vienna's wine and the villages of Grinzing and Nussdorf with their wine taverns.
