Margaret Island

Margaret Island

The island is named after St Margaret, daughter of King Béla IV, who lived in a 13th-century Dominican convent whose ruins can still be seen. It is 2.5 km long and almost traffic-free, so it is where Budapest comes to stroll, run and sunbathe.

By Margaret Bridge is the musical fountain, with water and music shows, and further in are a Japanese garden, a 1911 water tower, rose gardens and, in summer, the Palatinus open-air pools. A dirt running track of over 5 km circles the island.
