Before you go
The Gellért Hill fortress reopened in spring 2026 after eleven years shut. The park and lookouts are free; only the exhibition is ticketed. Bus 27 drops you near the top at Búsuló Juhász.
The lower terraces of Fisherman's Bastion are free and always open. Early morning they're almost empty, with soft light falling on Parliament.
The sun sets behind Buda, so from the Citadella you watch Pest and the bridges light up. Get there an hour before sunset.
Trams 4 and 6 stop mid-way across Margaret Bridge, right at the island's southern entrance, where you can rent bikes and pedal carts.
Checked on November 4, 2026. Opening hours and tickets can change, so check each place’s website before you go.
