Frigyes Schulek built it between 1895 and 1902 as a decorative lookout rather than a defence. Its seven towers stand for the seven Magyar tribes who settled the Carpathian Basin, and the name recalls the fishermen's guild that defended this stretch of the walls in the Middle Ages.
From its arches and stairways you see the whole of Pest, with Parliament straight ahead, the Danube and the bridges. The square next to it holds Matthias Church and the equestrian statue of St Stephen, Hungary's first king.
