Museums & culture· Terézváros
An 1884 neo-Renaissance palace on Andrássy Avenue with a gilded, frescoed auditorium. See it on a guided tour or, better still, with a ticket to a performance.

Special place· City Park
One of Europe's largest spa complexes, set in a yellow neo-Baroque palace inside City Park. Its outdoor pools steam even in the depths of winter.

Special place· Tabán
A 16th-century Turkish bath with an octagonal pool under a domed roof, at the foot of Gellért Hill. A hot rooftop pool looks straight out over the Danube and its bridges.

Before you go
Gellért Baths shut in October 2025 for a long renovation and won't reopen until 2028. For a thermal soak, head to open-air Széchenyi or Ottoman-era Rudas instead.
Bring swimwear, flip-flops and a towel (or rent one there). Swim caps are only required in the lap pools. Book on the bath's official site, which usually beats reseller prices.
It's guided tours only, leaving every hour, so book a slot. It's cool underground all year round, so bring a layer.
The Museum of Fine Arts, the House of Music and Széchenyi Bath are all a few minutes' walk apart in City Park. End the day in the water.
Checked on November 4, 2026. Opening hours and tickets can change, so check each place’s website before you go.
