It is a tiny rocky cove right in the centre of Cascais, named after Queen Amélia, who bathed here when the royal family summered in the town in the late 19th century. The rocks shelter it from the swell, so the water is usually calm.
It is a few minutes' walk from the station and the centre, with its pedestrian streets, fishermen's bay and citadel. Being so small, it fills up fast in high summer.
