Rem Koolhaas's studio designed the concert hall, which opened in 2005 as the flagship project of Porto's year as European Capital of Culture. From outside it is a white concrete polyhedron that seems to have landed on the Rotunda da Boavista.
Inside, the surprise is the Sala Suggia, the main hall, with gold-leafed wooden walls and huge corrugated-glass windows at each end. It is home to the Porto Symphony Orchestra and has performances almost every day.
