It fills the first floor of the House of the Black Madonna, built by architect Josef Gočár in 1911-1912 on the corner of Celetná and Ovocný trh. It is one of the first Cubist buildings, and the café, all designed by Gočár, closed in the 1920s; it was faithfully rebuilt and reopened in 2005.
The lamps, chairs, bar and coat stands follow the original geometric design. The upper floors house the Museum of Czech Cubism, and a statue of the Black Madonna on the corner of the façade gives the building its name.
