Bar San Calisto

Trastevere

Marcello Forti has run it since 1969 on Piazza di San Calisto, steps from Santa Maria in Trastevere. It is the neighbourhood bar par excellence: plastic tables outside, prices from another era and a mix of long-time locals, students and artists.

It closed for six weeks in early 2026 for a refurbishment and reopened in late February; some regulars worried it would lose its old-school character. In winter it is known for thick hot chocolate with cream, and in summer for its chocolate ice cream.
