It opened in 1923 on Via del Portico d'Ottavia, the main street of the old Jewish Ghetto, and has tables outside beside the columns of the portico Emperor Augustus dedicated to his sister Octavia. It is an old-school trattoria, with wood-panelled rooms and long-serving waiters.
The house dish is carciofi alla giudia, whole artichokes fried until they open like a crisp flower, a Roman-Jewish tradition. There are also fried courgette flowers, salt cod and the Roman pasta classics, such as cacio e pepe or amatriciana.
