Galician Francisco Espinheira began selling a liqueur here in 1840, made from sour cherries steeped in brandy with sugar and cinnamon, and the business is still in the family. It is a counter a couple of metres wide on Largo de São Domingos, next to Rossio, with no tables or chairs.
Ginjinha is served in small cups and drunk standing in the street at any hour. Next door is the church of São Domingos, its interior gutted by a fire in 1959 and never fully restored.
