The terrace is right by the church of Santa Luzia, on the way from the castle to the Sé. Two tile panels decorate its walls: one shows Praça do Comércio before the 1755 earthquake, the other the Christian siege of the castle in 1147.
Under a bougainvillea-covered pergola, the parapet looks over the red roofs of Alfama, the towers of São Miguel and Santo Estêvão and the Tagus, so wide here that locals call it the «Sea of Straw».
