The iron-and-glass covered arcades of Leadenhall Market

Leadenhall Market

City

There has been a market here since the 14th century, right on top of the forum of Roman London. The present iron-and-glass structure, its roofs painted maroon, cream and green, was designed in 1881 by Horace Jones, architect of Tower Bridge.

Today, instead of meat and poultry, there are pubs, restaurants, a cheesemonger and shops, and on weekdays it fills with City workers at lunchtime. It appears as Diagon Alley in «Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone», and the blue door in Bull's Head Passage played the entrance to the Leaky Cauldron.
