This is the house the Valencian painter Joaquín Sorolla had built in Chamberí in the early 20th century, with his studio, his furniture and an Andalusian-style garden he designed himself. After his death his widow left it to the state, and it opened as a museum in 1932.
The historic house and garden remain closed for works with no reopening date, and the paintings are in storage in the meantime. In October 2026 the new extension at Calle Zurbano 68 opened, with an exhibition on the history of the house running until 10 January 2027.
