It opened in 1887 on the Glorieta de Bilbao and for more than a century was a meeting place for writers, journalists and chess players. It closed in 2015 and reopened in 2017, refurbished but keeping the mirrors, columns and marble tables that give it its old-café feel.
It serves breakfast, meals and drinks, and has large windows over the square. It sits between Malasaña and Chamberí, so it makes a good stop at the start or end of a walk through those neighbourhoods.
