Crystal Palace

Retiro

Ricardo Velázquez Bosco designed it for the 1887 Philippines Exhibition, inspired by London's Crystal Palace. It is an iron-and-glass structure beside a small lake with swamp cypresses, and for decades the Reina Sofía Museum has used it for contemporary art shows.

It is currently closed for a major restoration, with reopening expected in 2027. Meanwhile a large art canvas covers it, and the lake and gardens around it remain one of the most photogenic corners of the Retiro.
