The Temple of Debod lit up and reflected in its pool at night

Temple of Debod

Parque del Oeste

This is a genuine Egyptian temple, more than 2,000 years old, built in Nubia south of Aswan and dedicated to the gods Amun and Isis. Egypt gave it to Spain in 1968 as thanks for helping rescue the Nubian temples threatened by the Aswan High Dam. Since 1972 it has stood at the top of Parque del Oeste, on the site of the old Cuartel de la Montaña barracks.

You can see the outside at any hour, reflected in its pool and framed by two stone gateways. Inside, the space is small, with original reliefs, a model of the Nile valley and panels explaining how it was moved stone by stone.
