It opened in 1880 beside the old public weighbridge at Porta Garibaldi, the pesa that gives it its name, where carts entering the city were weighed. It keeps the feel of an old-style trattoria, with wood panelling, old photographs, white tablecloths and jacketed waiters.
The menu is classic Milanese: saffron risotto, ossobuco, bone-in cotoletta, mondeghili (fried meatballs) and, in winter, cassoeula, a pork and cabbage stew. For dessert, panettone pudding or mascarpone cream.
