It was laid out at the end of the 19th century as an English-style park over the castle's old parade ground and hunting grounds. Its roughly 40 hectares hold lawns, a pond with bridges and avenues leading to the Arch of Peace, a triumphal arch begun under Napoleon and finished in 1838.
Inside the park are the Torre Branca, the Civic Aquarium and the Palazzo dell'Arte, home of the Triennale design museum. Artworks are scattered across the lawns, such as De Chirico's Bagni Misteriosi near the Triennale.
