Gio Ponti designed it in 1933 for the 5th Milan Triennale, and it went up in just two and a half months. It stands just over 108 metres, a height chosen so as not to outdo the Duomo's Madonnina. It's a light frame of steel tubes, restored and reopened to the public in 2002.
A lift takes a minute to reach the platform at the top. From there you see the Sforza Castle and the park below, the Duomo's spires, the towers of Porta Nuova and CityLife and, on clear days, the line of the Alps.
