The Palais de Chaillot, with its two curved wings, was built for the 1937 Exhibition on the site of the old Trocadéro palace. Between the wings opens the Esplanade of Human Rights, named because the Universal Declaration of Human Rights was adopted in the palace in 1948.
From here you see the Eiffel Tower head-on across the Seine, with the gardens and the Warsaw Fountain stepping down to the river. The palace wings hold three museums: Architecture, the Musée de l'Homme and the Maritime Museum.
