It is separated from Malá Strana by the Čertovka, the «Devil's Stream», an arm of the Vltava that once drove several mills; the Grand Priory mill wheel still turns. The houses along the stream, with balconies over the water, earned it the nickname «Venice of Prague».
The southern half is a riverside park of chestnut trees and lawns. On the bank is the Kampa Museum of Central European modern art, with a row of yellow penguins outside and, in the park, David Černý's giant bronze babies crawling across the grass.
