Amsterdam's central public library opened in 2007 on Oosterdokseiland, five minutes from the station. It has ten open, bright floors with seats for reading and working by the windows, and anyone can walk in.
What makes it special for visitors is the top floor: a café-restaurant with a terrace looking over the historic centre, the Oosterdok and NEMO. It is one of the best free views in the city and a good refuge on a rainy day.
