It moved to Albert Cuypstraat in De Pijp in 1905 and is the largest open-air market in the Netherlands, with around 260 stalls along the street. The street is named after a Golden Age painter, like most in the neighbourhood.
Everyday goods such as fruit, fish, fabric and clothes sit alongside what visitors come for: Dutch cheese, raw herring with onions, poffertjes and stroopwafels made on the spot. Bars and restaurants from all over the world line the side streets.
