The national maritime museum fills the former admiralty storehouse of 1656, a square building on the water of the Oosterdok. A 2011 renovation covered the courtyard with a glass roof whose pattern recalls the compass roses of old sea charts.
Inside are antique maps and globes, ship models, sea battle paintings and the royal barge. Moored outside is a replica of the Amsterdam, an 18th-century Dutch East India Company ship you can explore from the deck down to the hold.
