Before you go

How to do the day trips from Milan

  1. Como by regional train

Trains leave from Centrale and Cadorna and take 40 minutes to an hour. No need to book.

  2. Bellagio by boat

From Como there are slow ferries and faster hydrofoils. To see more villages, take the train to Varenna instead and cross to Bellagio by ferry.

  3. Bergamo by funicular

The train from Centrale takes around an hour. From the station, a bus drops you at the funicular up to the old town.

  4. Go midweek

On sunny weekends the lake fills with Milanese and boats run full. If you can, go Tuesday to Thursday.
