It opened in 2010 in the Arengario, a 1930s palace on Piazza del Duomo. A spiral ramp takes you straight up to Pellizza da Volpedo's The Fourth Estate, the great painting of marching workers that became a 20th-century icon.
The rooms trace the century of Italian art: Boccioni and Balla's Futurism, De Chirico's metaphysical painting, Morandi, Modigliani and Arte Povera. On the top floor, a room with a Lucio Fontana neon on the ceiling opens onto a huge window over the square and the Duomo's façade.
