From outside it is a plain Gothic church from the 14th and 15th centuries, next to the Palácio da Bolsa. Inside it is the opposite: in the 17th and 18th centuries almost every wall, column and vault was covered in gilded Baroque woodcarving.
The highlight is the Tree of Jesse altarpiece, with Christ's genealogy carved in wood. In the order's house opposite there is a small museum and catacombs with an ossuary visible beneath the floor.
