Ribeira

Historic centre

This is Porto's oldest quarter, a slope of narrow, colourful houses running down to the Douro quay. It is part of the historic centre listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1996, and for centuries it was the port through which the city's trade flowed.

Today the Cais da Ribeira is lined with terraces, buskers and moored rabelo boats, with the Gaia cellars and the Luís I bridge opposite. The six-bridges river cruises, about 50 minutes long, leave from here.
