Jardim das Virtudes

This is a terraced garden dropping steeply from the Passeio das Virtudes towards the Douro, between old stone walls. It has lawns, tall trees and shady corners, and barely features on tourist routes.

Above it, the Passeio das Virtudes is a long viewpoint with benches and a few bars. At sunset it fills with locals, mostly young people, sitting on the grass to watch the sun go down over the river and Gaia.
