Princess Kateřina of Lobkowicz founded it in 1626, at the height of the Counter-Reformation, around a replica of the Santa Casa of Loreto, the house of the Virgin that tradition says angels carried to Italy. The Baroque façade is by the Dientzenhofers, from the 1720s.
Its 27-bell carillon, from 1694, plays a Marian tune every hour. The treasury holds the Prague Monstrance, also called the Prague Sun, studded with more than 6,000 diamonds.
