Villa Borghese

Cardinal Scipione Borghese, nephew of Pope Paul V, built the villa in the early 17th century to house his collection. He was one of Bernini's first patrons, and here are the sculptures that made the young artist famous: Apollo and Daphne, the Rape of Proserpina and his David.

The ground floor also holds Canova's Pauline Bonaparte and six paintings by Caravaggio. Upstairs, the picture gallery has Raphael's Lady with a Unicorn and Deposition, and Titian's Sacred and Profane Love.
