On top of the Muslim governors' fortress, King Peter I built a palace in 1364 with craftsmen from Granada, Toledo and Seville, which is why it looks Andalusi although it is Christian. It is the heart of the complex: the Courtyard of the Maidens, the Courtyard of the Dolls and the Hall of Ambassadors, with its gilded wooden dome.
The Spanish royal family still stays in the upper rooms when in Seville, making it the oldest royal palace in Europe still in use. Behind it stretch the gardens, with pools, pavilions and peacocks; the kingdom of Dorne in «Game of Thrones» was filmed here.
