The Metropol Parasol, which everyone calls the Setas (Mushrooms), was designed by German architect Jürgen Mayer and opened in 2011. It is six laminated-timber parasols about 26 metres high, one of the largest wooden structures in the world, shading the square and the Encarnación market.
On top, a walkway winds among the rooftops with views of the Giralda and the churches of the centre. In the basement, the Antiquarium shows the Roman and Almohad houses found during excavation, with mosaics and a fish-salting factory.
