Engineer Carles Buïgas designed it for the 1929 International Exhibition, at the foot of the steps up to the Palau Nacional. Its jets, which change shape and colour in time to music, made it one of Barcelona's most popular free shows.
During the 2022-2025 drought it was switched off for almost three years, returning in September 2025. Shows are in the evening, only on certain days of the week, and the calendar changes with the season.
