Antonio Palacios and Joaquín Otamendi designed it as the Palace of Communications, the grand headquarters of the postal service, opened in 1919. Since 2007 it has been Madrid's city hall and houses CentroCentro, a cultural space with free exhibitions and places to sit.
The best part is at the top: the eighth-floor viewpoint looks down on the Cibeles fountain, the start of Gran Vía and Calle de Alcalá, with the Retiro and the mountains beyond on clear days.
