Before you go

How to visit the Paris museums

  1. Mind the closing days

The Louvre is closed on Tuesdays and the Musée d'Orsay on Mondays. Plan your week around them so you don't arrive at a locked door.

  2. Book a Louvre time slot

Every Louvre ticket, free ones included, needs a time slot booked on ticket.louvre.fr. Arrive on time and enter through the pyramid or the Carrousel entrance.

  3. Orsay after dark

On Thursdays the Musée d'Orsay stays open until 9:45pm, and the evening is quieter than the morning. Galleries start clearing half an hour before closing.

  4. Pair the Orangerie and Orsay

The two Impressionist collections are a short walk apart through the Tuileries and over the footbridge, and there's a combined ticket for both.

Checked on November 3, 2026. Opening hours and tickets can change, so check each place’s website before you go.
