George Sandeman founded the house in London in 1790 and soon began ageing wine in Vila Nova de Gaia, where the cellars have the cool, damp climate port needs. Its logo, a caped figure in a wide hat known as «the Don», dates from 1928 and is one of the most recognisable in wine.
The tour goes through halls of barrels and century-old vats, explains how port is made and ends with a tasting. It sits right on the Gaia quay, opposite the Ribeira.
