Clockmaker Mikuláš of Kadaň and astronomer Jan Šindel built it in 1410, and it is the oldest astronomical clock still working. The upper dial shows the time, the positions of sun and moon and the zodiac; the lower one is a calendar painted by Josef Mánes in 1866.
On the hour, from 9:00 to 23:00, Death rings a bell, two windows open and the twelve apostles pass by, and a golden cockerel crows at the end. The show lasts under a minute.
