Johann Figlmüller opened a small wine tavern in 1905 in a passage off Wollzeile, beside the cathedral. Its schnitzel became famous for its size: a pork cutlet beaten very thin, breaded and fried, about 30 centimetres across and too big for the plate.
The family still runs it and has a second branch a step away on Bäckerstrasse. The classic side is Viennese potato salad, dressed with vinegar and broth.
