Before you go

How to see Barcelona's essentials

  1. Book Gaudí in advance

The Sagrada Família, Casa Batlló, La Pedrera and Park Güell's monumental zone all use timed tickets that sell out, especially at weekends. Buy them on their official websites.

  2. One neighbourhood per morning

The Gothic Quarter, El Born and La Boqueria make an easy morning on foot. Casa Batlló and La Pedrera are on the same Passeig de Gràcia, five minutes' walk apart.

  3. The Bunkers close at night

The Turó de la Rovira viewpoint opens 9:00–19:30 in summer and until 17:30 in winter, and is fenced off at night. The climb is steep and there are no facilities at the top.

  4. Save the beach for late afternoon

Barceloneta is about 15 minutes' walk from El Born. Crowds thin out towards sunset, when the promenade terraces fill up.
